Glass Type

In general most glass types that can be flat toughened can be bent and toughened. For unusual or specialist glass please contact Tempabend Ltd.

Glass Thickness

Glass thickness from 6 to 25 mm can be toughened and 4 and 5 mm heat strengthened. Size, shape and cut outs may restrict some applications.

Tempabend Parameters

Maximum height 3000 mm (no minimum)
Maximum girth 1950 mm (may be less depending on radius)
Maximum depth 300 mm
Minimum radius depend on glass thickness
For radii above 15 m consider using flat facetted toughened
Note: For parameters outside the scope of this table please submit inquiries.

MANUFACTURING TOLERANCES

Standard Curved Glass

Size tolerance (cutting tolerance): ± 2 mm and for glass 12 mm thick and higher ± 3 mm for dimensions over 1000 mm.
Squareness: measured by comparison of diagonals, up to 2000 mm, 4 mm and over 2000 mm, 5 mm.
Torsion: ± 5 mm per meter measured along the straight edge.
Edge straightness: 3 mm per meter.
Curvature: Radius dimensions can deviate from the nominal form as follows:
6 to 12 mm glass thickness ± 3 mm
Over 12 mm glass thickness ± 4 mm
Note that this means that the glass fits in a channel with glass width plus 6 or 8 mm
(Example 12 mm glass fits in a channel with a width of 18 mm).
Template cutting: ± 5 mm
Normally curves flatten out to the ends.

Special Tolerances:

The above tolerances may not apply to situations as mentioned below.

  • Irregular curvatures
  • Twisted shapes
  • Glass with shaped top or bottom
  • Tight radius curves

We realise that some of the tolerances we can produce under normal circumstances, may seem large. However the nature of the process is such that we are not always able to predict accurately how the shapes in the above category react in the cooling process.

We can produce, at a cost, to smaller tolerances but this means that we may have to produce several windows before we achieve the required tolerance.

Visual distortions, if any, depend on size, radius and glass thickness.
